Constella
Constella is Awanio's multi-cloud management console. From one web console you manage virtual machines, networks, storage, Kubernetes clusters and monitoring across public clouds, private clouds and on-premises virtualization. One account system and one permission model cover every environment.
Constella is built on the open-source Cloudpods engine (AGPL-3.0). Awanio adds the console experience, the branding and the support. The engine does the work behind the console: it talks to each cloud, keeps an inventory of every resource, and enforces permissions.
What you can do with Constella
- See everything in one place. Connect cloud accounts, and Constella synchronizes their virtual machines, disks, networks, IP addresses, load balancers, databases and buckets into a single inventory.
- Operate across clouds. Create, start, stop, resize and delete virtual machines, disks and networks. The same actions and the same screens work whichever platform is underneath.
- Run Kubernetes. Import existing clusters and manage their workloads, services, configuration and access control.
- Monitor and alert. Get dashboards, a metrics explorer and alert policies. Notifications go out by email, SMS, in-console message, webhook, or chat bot (DingTalk, Feishu, WeCom).
- Govern access. Domains, projects, users, groups, roles and permission policies apply to every connected cloud. Users can sign in with local accounts, through LDAP or Microsoft Active Directory, or with single sign-on over SAML 2.0, OpenID Connect, OAuth2 or CAS.
Supported platforms
| Type | Platforms |
|---|---|
| Public cloud | Alibaba Cloud, AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, Huawei Cloud, Tencent Cloud, Oracle Cloud, Volcengine, China Telecom Cloud (CTyun), Kingsoft Cloud |
| Private cloud and virtualization | VMware vSphere (vCenter/ESXi 6.0+), OpenStack (Mitaka and later), Nutanix (6.5.2+), Proxmox VE (6.3+), Cloudpods |
| Object storage | S3-compatible storage, Ceph, XSKY |
Which actions are available depends on the platform. For example, Constella can list every platform's virtual machines, but a platform whose API cannot resize a machine will not offer resizing in Constella either.
How Constella is built
Constella runs on Kubernetes. It has two parts:
- The console, a web application that you open in the browser.
- The engine, a set of services that store the inventory (in a MySQL database), authenticate users, schedule and run operations, and collect metrics.
The console only talks to the engine, and only the engine talks to your clouds. Cloud credentials are therefore stored and used in one place.
